Dr. med. Matthias Jöllenbeck

Assistant doctor for orthopaedics and trauma surgery in Freiburg

  • Sports doctor of the GOTS

My philosophy

"Every patient should be seen as a top athlete - in their own individual area of challenge"

My enthusiasm as your attending physician lies in the detailed analysis of restrictions of the musculoskeletal system in order to restore your individual performance together with you.

From my own experience in competitive sport, I know very well how devastating injuries and impairments to the musculoskeletal system can be. Trusting and personalized care is extremely important for the healing process.

I will be happy to accompany you on this journey!

My philosophy in the care of our patients is to develop an individual and patient-centered therapy concept that takes into account your professional and private / sporting situation.

Born in Freiburg, he grew up and has his roots in the Markgräflerland region. The "son of the region" can be found in his spare time on his racing bike in the hills of the Black Forest, jogging in the Hexental valley or on the village sports fields in the surrounding area.

Professional career

After gaining his license to practice medicine and his doctorate at the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg, he started his career in the orthopaedic department of the HELIOS Clinic in Breisach. After 4 years of training and further education with a focus on sports traumatology, he made the planned move to Freiburg University Hospital, where he was able to deepen his orthopaedic and sports medicine knowledge and skills.

While studying medicine, he also continued his work as a soccer referee, which has since led Dr. Matthias Jöllenbeck to professional soccer. He has been refereeing matches in the first Bundesliga since 2020. The insights into professional soccer have strengthened his enthusiasm for orthopaedic work.

The move to the OrthoZentrum Freiburg on 01.01.2024 offers the opportunity to live this enthusiasm and fascination at the highest level and close to the patient.
